Advances in health care technology provide opportunities for breakthroughs in patient care. The digitization of health records, including related images, make it easier for professionals in different practice areas to collaborate on patient care. Patient outcomes improve when health care professionals can easily access all relevant and up-to-date patient information. This ease of access eliminates long turnaround periods and makes it easier for health professionals to collaborate. Thus, rural hospitals, which have the most to gain from these tools, should be moving quicker to EMR adoption to improve specialty care such as radiology.
